Cantacore Society
The Cantacore Society was set up in the winter of 1980 by a group of music lovers in the art of singing, with Professor Daniel Law as her founding conductor. Since 1984, Chiang Wai Man has been the conductor.
The Society holds an annual concert every year and participates in many choral events. The Cantacore Society has presented works with various styles and natures, ranging from Renaissance masses and motets to modern cantatas, from secular madrigals and part-songs to vocal works of the Chinese. Their repertoire includes Palestrina’s Missa Aeterna Christi Munera, Haydn’s Paukenmesse, Bach’s Magnificat and Jesu, Meine Freude, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore and Requiem, Perschetti’s Mass and Celebration, Rutter’s Requiem and Psalmfest, Bruckner’s Te Deum, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Chen Ning-chi’s Symphonic Chorus The Chariots Rattle On, Huang Zi’s cantata The Eternal Lament, Jin Xiang’s The Book of Songs and Leung Chi-cheung’s Li Sao etc.
Orchestras performed with include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra etc; conductors in collaboration include Daniel Law, Richard Tsang, Yeh Cheung-shing, Victor Chan, Angela Tam, Dorothy Cheung, Yan Liang-kun, Ma Ge-xun, Du Hei, Carmen Koon, Leung Chi-cheung and Chiang Wai-man.
