Description

Description

Wen Pingsheng and Pinniang are a loving couple, but they are set up by the cousins of Pingsheng, who collude with a doctor to claim that Pinniang is terminally ill. Since Pingsheng is the only descendant of three generations, his mother Lady Fang is not happy that her daughter-in-law is not giving her grandchildren. Anxious about the potential risk for her son contracting the same incurable disease, Lady Fang puts Pinniang in a different house to recuperate and prohibits Pingsheng to visit his wife. Pingsheng is about to go on a military expedition. He disobeys his mother’s orders and visits his wife during midnight, but is found out by his mother. After Pingsheng leaves home, Lady Fang gives Pinniang some gold and a maid and coerces her to leave the family. When Pingsheng returns home after the battle, his mother tells him that Pinniang has already passed away. Pingsheng visits his wife’s tomb and cries his heart out. His love for her moves Pinniang, who steps up to reunite with her husband. Seeing how the two are deeply in love, the cousins of Pingsheng feel ashamed of what they have done and admit that they have set Pinniang up. Lady Fang agrees to the reunion of the couple.
