This Slow . That Fast : Animamix Biennale 2013-14

Description

Description

The Animamix Biennale has been held in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Taipei since 2007,
showcasing contemporary art under the influence of the unique aesthetic and culture of animation and
comics. In 2013-14, apart from Shanghai and Beijing, Daegu in Korea, Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Macau and
Hong Kong also participate in the festival. vA! and Oi! will collaborate with the City University of Hong
Kong in organising the exhibition to examine ‘time’ and ‘speed’— the intrinsic nature of animation and
comics. The speediness and slowness in animation affects our mental and cognitive perception towards
visual images; while contemporary art often shapes time into grotesques through various media
and technologies. They challenge the established conception of the viewers and open up a broader
aesthetical experience for our sensual world.
