Description
Description
According to a Chinese saying, “Food is the paramount concern of the people.” This shows how much importance the Chinese attach to eating. Some say eating is part of life’s enjoyment, and delicious food is just irresistible. But how many resources are wasted in order to gratify the glutton’s appetite? When all that children in poverty-stricken third world countries can eat and drink every day are bits of roots and bark and tainted water, should we approach and reflect anew on the meaning of eating? At the same time, what is the nutritious value of the food produced by manufacturers? How many chemicals are present? What is the amount of pollution incurred by slaughtering a cow? Does industrial manufacturing and agriculture follow fair trade, hygiene, environmental and moral principles? Under globalisation, what are the effects of toxic food? How do food manufacturers profiteer? In short, how can eating be good and healthy?
