The Colour of Sound

Description
Description
Opening this colourful concert, is the wonderfully evocative string sextet from Richard Strauss’ opera Capriccio, painting with rich tones the broad strokes of longing and hope. The colours then turn golden with David Bruce’s commission for Avi Avital (mandolin) and the Dover Quartet, named Cymbeline, the old Celtic word meaning Lord of the Sun. As the sun sets, the lights of twilight dance to Tsintsadze’s Six miniature folk songs. The concert closes with the joyful and sonorous palette of Dvořák’s Quartet in A flat major, Op 105 with the finely woven tapestry of colours that only a string quartet can provide.
