Description
Shao Nian Yau – is it “aimless wandering of the young” or “determined expedition of the youthful aged”
The Hong Kong Dance Company joins hands with renowned choreographer Yuri Ng to take you through a ruminative journey with local dancers and choreographers in Shao Nian Yau. Staging the stories behind three generations of dancers, this creative collaboration sets out to interpret classic dances anew, with a view to reflecting on the heritage, development, and prospect of Chinese dance in Hong Kong. In the form of old stories retold, Shao Nian Yau paints a picture of the voice of youth, and rekindles in your memory all the salad-days dreams.
Yuri Ng, now in his middle years, knows how transient a dancer’s life is. But even more transient is the life of Chinese dances, which rarely have the chance to be restaged. In Shao Nian Yau, a group of consummate choreographers call on their unique experience to breathe new life into classic dances like Wander Through the Moonlit Night, Eulogy and Once on a Secret Night. With these powerful reproductions you are invited to share their stories with Chinese dance, a long-time friend.
