Our Music Talent Series

Description

Description

Young local pianist Beverly Leung will perform a selection of virtuoso compositions in a recital to be staged in September.

The programme will feature the Bach-Busoni piece “Chaconne in D Minor”, Poulenc’s “Trois Pièces, FP 48”, Granados’ “Los Requiebros” (from Goyescas) and Chopin’s “24 Préludes, Op. 28”.

Born in Hong Kong, Beverly Leung discovered her passion for music at age 4. Her performance as a pianist has been described as offering “music combined with honesty, sensitivity and simplicity”. Leung is currently teaching at the Education University of Hong Kong and the Baron School of Music, and also has been adjudicating for the Hong Kong International Piano Invitation Competition. She has given performances throughout the Mainland as well as in Japan, Serbia, Austria, Italy, Canada and the United States, with the shows including solo and chamber music as well as concertos with orchestras. Her performances have been broadcast on Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4 and CBC Television in Canada.

Leung was trained under the guidance of well-known local pianist Nancy Loo at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she completed her master’s degree in piano performance. She then received a scholarship to pursue her artist diploma with renowned pianist Professor Lee Kum-sing in Canada.

As a soloist, Leung received a full grant in 2009 from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to attend the 5th San Danielle International Piano Conference in Italy, and she was subsequently awarded an outstanding performance award for playing Schumann’s piano concerto. She has appeared in the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, the International Summer Academy of the University Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria, the Canton International Summer Music Academy on the Mainland, and the International Keyboard Institute and Festival at the Mannes College of Music in the United States. Noted musicians such as Gary Graffman, Andrzej Jasinski, Dimitri Bashkirov and Trevor Pinnock have substantially influenced her artistic development.
