Talented local sheng virtuoso Cheng Ho-kwan will give his first solo concert as a professional artist in June. Cheng expects the concert to be a gratifying experience in which he can share with the audience the road he has taken with his companion in music, the sheng.
The selections for the programme tell of the people and events the performer encountered and was touched by during his study of the instrument. The programme will feature well-known classics from the sheng repertoire such as “The Phoenix Spreads its Wings”, “Song of the Homebound Fishermen”, “Song of the Axi Tribe”, “Song of Spring on the Xiang River”, “Zen” and “Let’s Snap” from the repertoire of Nanyang-inspired music, and a brand new commissioned work, “La neige de temps”.
