Explore The Collection With Artists

Description

Description

Led by artists Tang Kwok Hin and Samson Young, ‘Explore the Collection with Artists’ was one of the programmes during the recent ‘AAA Open Weekend.’ To accompany the tours, each artist created a series of artworks which are installed in different areas throughout the library. Video of the tours are available on the Collection Online.

Collecting Asia Art Archive Images |Tang Kwok Hin

Taking as a point of departure the multiple transformative processes that media undergoes nowadays, such as the possibility of retaking, downloading, and appropriating images, artist Tang Kwok Hin collected three kinds of images from the AAA book collection, including artists’ portraits, sculptures, and photos of young boys, that he arranged to reflect three of his past works exploring themes of fictitiousness, media, and narrative. The three sets of newly created works, entitled Gathering Asian Artists at AAA, AAA Sculpture Collection Exhibition, and A Lost Family Member in AAA, are installed together with the three existing works in vacant spaces in the bookshelves throughout the library.

Alternative Archive of Asia Art Archive (AAAAA) |Samson Young

Artist Samson Young created an alternative archive within Asia Art Archive. He installed a number of fictional artifacts in various locations throughout the library. These artifacts probe the definition, physical boundaries, and temporal borders of archives. During the tours, Young switched between introducing the Archive’s actual collection, and narrating the history and function of the fictional artifacts. Examples of the latter include dust and fibres collected from different book sections, the EEGs (brainwaves) of archivists that are being constantly logged and visualised with custom software, as well as tweets containing ‘Ai Weiwei’ monitored through the internet.
