Description
Description
Helena, the orphan of a famous doctor, is the ward of the Countess of Rossillion, and hopelessly in love with the son of the Countess, Bertram, who has been sent to the court of the King of France. When word comes that the King is dangerously ill, Helena goes to Paris and cures him, using the skills she learned from her father. Her only demand is to be allowed to marry whoever she wants. She chooses Bertram but soon after their marriage, he and Parolles, his brash but cowardly friend, run away to war. Helena then receives a letter from Bertram saying that he will never be her true husband as long as she does not have the ring from his finger and his child in her womb. Helena sets off after him, disguised as a pilgrim. She arrives in the town where Bertram is stationed, only to discover that he is trying to seduce a young woman named Diana. Helena devises a way to trick Bertram. Meanwhile, false messengers come to the camp spreading the news that Helena is dead. Bertram thinks it is now safe to return home. The King comes to visit and arranges a marriage between Bertram and the daughter of Lafew, a faithful old lord of the Court. However, he recognises a ring on Bertram’s finger that the King had given to Helena as a gift for saving his life. Bertram cannot explain himself, but just then, Helena and Diana arrive…
