Description

Description

Instrumental Guide to the Chinese Orchestra is written by the Hong Kong composer Kuan Nai-chung. Its theme is based on a Jiangsu folk song Jasmine. Different Chinese orchestral instruments play a variation on the theme in turn and a narrator gives an introduction of them one by one. The work lasts for about 20 minutes. The music provides the audience with the basic knowledge of Chinese orchestral instruments. It is also a very melodious musical piece. Main sections of the work will be performed in the concert together with an individual demonstration of different instruments. Students may learn the characteristics of each instrument and also its effect and role in a Chinese music ensemble.
