Our Music Talent Series

Description

Description

Young local violist Born Lau will collaborate with pianist Colleen Lee for a recital in August. They will perform a selection of classical compositions.

The programme will include Eccles’ “Sonata in G Minor” (arranged by Klengel), Brahms’ “Sonata in E-flat, Op. 120, No. 2”, Clarke’s “Sonata for Viola and Piano”, Prokofiev’s “Dance of the Knights” (from Romeo and Juliet Suite) (arranged by Borisovsky) and Zimbalist’s “Tango from Sarasateana” (arranged by Primrose).

Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer for his “immaculately refined” playing, Born Lau has appeared internationally as a soloist and a chamber musician. He has recently performed in places such as Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, Korea, Switzerland and Taiwan, as well as numerous cities in the United States and the Mainland. Career highlights include performing at the Henry A. Kissinger Prize ceremony in Berlin, as well as a concert with the esteemed Tokyo String Quartet in Los Angeles. Lau has served as Principal Violist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and Symphony in C, as well as Guest Principal Violist of the San Diego Symphony and the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra.

Born in Hong Kong, Lau began studying the violin at the age of 7 and the viola at 11. His principal teachers have included Roberto Diaz, Paul Coletti and Richard Fleischman, and he studied chamber music with members of the Emerson, Guarneri and Tokyo String Quartets.

Colleen Lee has performed extensively throughout Asia, Europe and North America after winning the Sixth Prize in the 15th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition. She has collaborated with major international orchestras such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Galacia Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the China Philharmonic Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. She was the Artist Associate and Piano of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta for its 2010-11 season.
