Dance legends at every stage – John Neumeier and Hamburg Ballet

“At Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier built not only a world class troupe, but also a whole new generation of ballet lovers” Pointe Magazine

Twenty years since first dazzling Hong Kong audiences Hamburg Ballet makes its fourth visit to the Festival. At the helm of the company in 1973, John Neumeier is one of the world’s longest serving artistic directors. His astonishing creativity has produced more than one hundred and fifty ballets. He has led the company to more than three hundred tours on five continents and is the recipient of innumerable awards and distinctions all over the world. With its updated versions of classic repertoire and ballets exploring human dramas, Hamburg Ballet epitomises this year’s festival theme、 truly a company for every stage.

“A once in a lifetime evening that will remain in the audience’s hearts for a very long time”
★★★★★ Bachtrack

John Neumeier provides the narration for this spectacular ballet gala, which features Hamburg Ballet’s superb dancers performing excerpts from some of his greatest works. Greeted with a standing ovation at its 2018 Asian premiere in Tokyo, the programme includes highlights from Lady of the Camellias, Bernstein Dances, Death in Venice, Peer Gynt, symphonic ballets set to Bach and Mahler music, and Nijinsky–Neumeier’s tribute to the most famous dancer of the early 20th century, if not of all time. Enjoy the magnificent, magical world of Neumeier creations, each one a milestone in a glittering dance career.

The Ballet brings another two thrilling programmes: The Nutcracker, re-set in the context of learning about dance、 and Beethoven Project, Neumeier’s ode to the composer’s beloved music.
