Amazing possibilities reside in the simplest of things
Is the Moon a balloon A balloon can be anything you want it to be…
“It is a visual delight… using white balloons of all sizes in a mix of play, dance and comic slapstick with delectable projections and lighting… it is sublime theatre for any age.” — The Australian
“Using a humble balloon, they’ve created a little world in which the wonders are many, yet the messages are clear… This is must-see children’s theatre.” — The Adelaide Advertiser
A balloon can be a friend to play with or a maker of friendships. It can hold its breath for days and disappear in an instant. It can make your hair stand on end and fill you with laughter.
The Moon’s a Balloon is a moving and eloquent story that explores childhood play, invention, friendship and connection in a highly visual performance without language, which is beautifully complemented by magical lighting, digital imagery and a stunning soundscape that will delight and inspire the hearts and minds of children.
Two performers played with simple white balloons to see what sorts of shapes they could create. They found that the possibilities were endless. Through their exploration and play, they learnt how to get along and how to develop ideas together, giving rise to a rich variety of ideas, beauty, laughter, wonder, joy and stories. The show represents the way children play and gives the audience a glimpse into their imagination, showing how they can invent so creatively with so little.
We live in a cluttered world of complexity, sophistication and gadgetry, yet often the best loved and most used objects in children’s play are things as simple as a cardboard box or a plain balloon – perhaps because they are elemental.
