Since classical Chinese texts allow a lot of imagination and sometimes suggest multiple meanings for words, it can be adapted into drama, making language learning interesting and fun! According to Chinese language teachers, stage performances in classical Chinese enhance students’ understanding of classical Chinese. In this programme, the actors, taking the role of both storytellers and characters, perform three classical Chinese texts in the junior secondary curriculum: The Death of Yang Xiu, The Youth of Yue Fei and Borrowing Arrows with Straw Boats. There will also be guided appreciation workshops to facilitate students’ understanding.
