Double Piano Duo Concert By Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra (5/3)

Description

Description

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra will give concerts in May featuring duo-piano performances by twin pianists Alan and Alvin Chow.

Alan is acclaimed for his “elegant poetry and virtuosic fire”. He won first prize in the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the University of California, Los Angeles International Piano Competition and the Palm Beach Invitational International Piano Competition. He was also winner of the silver medal and audience favourite prize at the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Alan has performed in recital and in concert with many renowned orchestras from coast to coast in 45 states in the United States and regularly tours Asia, performing on the Mainland, in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. Most recently he performed with the European Union Youth Orchestra, with Vladimir Ashkenazy conducting.

Alvin has appeared throughout North America and in Asia as orchestral soloist and recitalist. He has performed extensively in duo-piano recitals with his wife, Angela Cheng, and his twin brother, Alan. Alvin has won first prize in numerous competitions such as the National Symphony Young Soloists Competition of the United States and the Indiana University Concerto Competition, as well as major prizes in the University of Maryland International Piano Competition, the New York Piano Teachers Congress International Piano Competition and the Helen Hart International Piano Competition. Since 1999, he has been a member of the artist faculty at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and currently the Chair of the Piano Department.

The Chow twins’ coming performance with Dr Yip Wai-hong, Johnny Ng, Andrew Ling (May 3 only) and the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra will bring to music lovers two different and fascinating programmes. They include Poulenc’s “Concerto in D Minor for Two Pianos”, Mozart’s “Concerto No.10 in E-flat for Two Pianos”, Weber’s “Overture to Der Freischütz”, Johann Strauss’ “Overture to Die Fledermaus” and Saint-Saëns’ “The Carnival of the Animals”.
