Description
Description
The word carnival originates from a religious festive season which typically involves public celebrations and parades. Nowadays, it has become a byword for various parties and activities, while magic is associated with mysterious supernatural forces such as witchcraft and sorcery.
The wind orchestra includes a wide array of musical instruments, ranging from glittering brasses to woodwinds made of wood and different metals. This concert will showcase magic-related musical pieces from different eras and regions, including Robert W. Smith’s The Winds of Poseidon specially created for a wind orchestra, which is based on the ancient Greek fairy tale Odyssey; Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture adapted from the Russian leading composer Glinka’s touching opera, which depicts a magical love story; the soundtrack for the animated film Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea directed by the Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki, which tells the story of a mermaid transforming herself into a human being, and many more.
