If we from today come to face to face with Confucius from the past, how would we feel? Lost? Admiration? Disdain?
Chinese choreographer Xu Yiming asks what chemical effect would occur when modern thoughts clash with traditional culture in The Encounter of Confucius. Young dancers from Shanxi won’t use their bodies to depict historical characters or interpret Chinese traditional philosophy. They are interested in being present through dance whlist responding the wise words in The Analects.
