Lars Ulrik Mortensen Harpsichord Recital

The 44th Hong Kong Arts Festival

Description

Description

This unique recital features works by three 17th century composers who influenced the great Johann Sebastian Bach and a selection of Bach’s compositions for harpsichord, Prolific and widely travelled, Froberger is credited with inventing the “keyboard suite”. Weckmann became a master of the toccata, a showcase form of sudden, fast runs and striking chords and arpeggios. Buxtehude’s organ works remain part of today’s standard repertoire and Bach once walked 400 kilometres to hear this famed organist play. Harpsichord virtuoso, conductor and scholar, Mortensen won the French Diapason d’Or for his recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, his Buxtehude recordings won Danish Grammy awards and the Cannes Classical Music Award among other honours. This promises to be a fascinating recital for lovers of the harpsichord and piano alike.
