A Legacy of Exotic Lyricism XI – There’s A Song In My Heart

Description

Description

Tracing a hundred years of the evolution of Cantonese music; This is a re-run of last season’s sold-out concert series of the same title, now returning by popular demand. We are honoured to have once again Maestro Yu Qiwei of gaohu fame to be our artistic adviser and curate two concerts that would reveal the vernacular charm of Cantonese music. The programmes include the Cantonese tunes medley – The Nun Leaving the Nunnery, The Monk Thinks of Getting a Wife and Stairway to the Clouds, performed by the ‘robust’ and ‘lyrical’ string ensemble; Rain Lashing on the Plantain and The Lament of Lady Zhaojun performed by the five-piece combo; and solo, duet or ensemble performances of Streaks of Tears, Threefold Sorrows, The Swallow Spreads Its Wings, In Remembrance, Song of the Homebound Fishermen and Autumn Moon on a Placid Lake by the artists of the HKCO – Huqin Principal Zhang Chongxue, Zheng Principal Luo Jing, Dizi Assistant Principal Chan Hung-yin, Gaohu Acting Assistant Principal Wong Lok-ting, sheng virtuoso Huang Yu-hsuan, sanxian virtuoso Zhao Taisheng, and pipa virtuoso Wong Yui-kiu. Lo Wai-leung, the Guan Principal who won thunderous applause in last year’s concert, will continue to wow the audience by injecting his characteristic humour into Yang-Cui-Xi, Pacing Horses and Billowing Waves. Yu Qiwei will also be leading the huqin artists of the HKCO in playing Pacing Horses in the Countryside in Spring and Thunder in a Drought. Come join us again – we look forward to welcoming you back for another amazing musical experience of exotic charm!
