Rubik’s Cube And Its Aftermath

Description

Description

This play is a combination of the post-Mao China in the 1980s and the contemporary Hong Kong in the 2010s

An Academy 25th anniversary event

Directed by Dean of Drama Tang Shu-wing, the first part of the work is an extract of 5 scenes from the Rubik’s Cube, a Chinese play written by Tao Jun and performed in Beijing in 1985, the year when the Academy moved into the present Campus. Theses scenes depict the social phenomena in the early years of the post-Mao China, which are still valid today. The second part is a devising theatre piece on contemporary Hong Kong which tries to predict what happens in the next 25 years. This is the first production in the School which covers very substantial devising theatre elements.
