★★★★”Powerful, vivid storytelling…both enjoyable and enlightening” – The Scotsman
★★★★”Witty, gently erudite and humane tales illustrate the absurd, haphazard nature of borders” The Times, London
Join verbal conjuror Thaddeus Phillips on a trip round the world, via the most effortlessly fluent storytelling. It starts with a man at a desk and ends up anywhere but. From a shabby Central European train to the undercarriage wheel-well of a transatlantic jet, you’ll experience 17 very different ways of crossing borders, in the company of one extraordinary performer.
The itinerary takes in Bali and Havana, run-ins with Swedish rock group Ace of Base, Croatian ferry trips, KFC smuggling in Palestine and jungle-drug experiments in the Amazon. It’s a captivating tale of international travel and rites of passage. Climb aboard!
Thaddeus Phillips has performed with Robert Lepage, studied with the Czech Republic’s famous Drak Theatre, and created one-man versions of Shakespeare’s King Lear, The Tempest and Henry V. He formed Lucidity Suitcase Intercontinental to make remarkable theatre using unusual stagecraft, intuition, action design, music and extensive travel. 17 Border Crossings has played at the BAM Next Wave Festival in New York, in Central and South America, and across Europe, all to great acclaim.
